Sometimes the only place to run...is to the other side.
 Faced with a searing conscience
after learning firsthand about the atrocities  committed by the very men he was sworn
to serve, Rashed Chowdury, then a captain,
switched sides from the Pakistan Army to
the Bengladesh Army. One evening, Rashed
 hopped into his Jeep, turned
the engine on, and, in a daring drive
 crossed to the other side.

Within days, he was turning the guns he'd
diligently taught his troops to use with deadly
 precision...on Pakistan.

A Soldier's debt is his personal account,  written with an immediacy that puts you right  there behind the wheel, as you and the
author are plagued by conflicting inner
voices of guilt, fear, doubt and ultimately
 decision.

MARCH 1971

THE AWAMI LEAGUE, HEADED BY EAST PAKISTAN'S POPULAR BENGALI LEADER SHEIKH MUJIBUR RAHMAN, WON A MAJORITY OF SEATS IN THE NEW NATIONAL ASSEMBLY IN THE DECEMBER 1970 ELECTIONS.

BUT PAKISTAN'S MILITARY DICTATOR, GENERAL YAHYA KHAN, REFUSED TO HONOR THE DEMOCRATIC CHOICE OF THE NATION'S MAJORITY. INSTEAD, HE ORDERED AN INVASION AGAINST THE BENGALIS AIMED AT CRUSHING FOR GOOD THEIR DEMANDS FOR POLITICAL RIGHTS, ECONOMIC EQUALITY, AND FREEDOM FROM PUNJABI DOMINATION.

WITHIN WEEKS, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF INNOCENTS WERE EXTERMINATED.

A SOLDIER’S DEBT IS THE STORY OF ONE MAN'S CONFLICT...WITH HIS SOUL. AND THE DEBT HE WOULD PAY TO THE PEOPLE OF HIS COMMUNITY.

 Indo-Pak War  is RELEVANT
Rashed Chowdhury

The end result: Pakistan's army and I.S.I. decided that the only way to cause problems to India was through terrorism (a proxy war).
